Athlon
The Athlon chronograph on our shelf is the Velocity Pro Radar Chronograph. Athlon Optics is a name most hunters know from riflescopes and binoculars, and this is the piece of its lineup that fits what we do: helping you get a rifle dialed in before you sit down in the dark with a thermal on top.
Why a radar chronograph matters on a night rifle
A chronograph measures how fast your bullet actually leaves the muzzle. The box lists a velocity, but your barrel, your load and the temperature all move that number. With the real figure, your ballistic data lines up with where the rounds hit, so holds at 200 or 300 yards on a coyote are based on fact instead of a guess.
A radar unit reads the shot without making you fire through screens downrange. You set it up beside the shooter and get on with the session. That makes it easier to check a new load, compare ammo lots, or confirm velocity in cold weather before a winter predator season.
Pair your velocity numbers with a careful zero on your thermal or night vision scope and you take a lot of the doubt out of a shot at night. See more in our chronograph section, and look at thermal scopes when you are ready to put that data to work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Athlon Velocity Pro chronograph worth it?
For a hunter who shoots past 100 yards at night, a radar chronograph earns its place. Knowing your true muzzle velocity makes your drop data match reality, which matters when you can't see bullet impacts well through a thermal. It also lets you test loads and ammo lots without screens downrange.
Do you carry Athlon scopes?
Not at the moment. Our Athlon offering is the Velocity Pro Radar Chronograph, because it fits the night hunting rigs we build around. For the scope itself, our shelves are thermal and night vision riflescopes from brands like Nocpix, RIX, Pulsar and PARD, which you can pair with your chronograph data.
Is Athlon Optics the same as Athlon Sports?
No, they are separate companies. Athlon Sports is a sports media publisher known for its preseason magazines. Athlon Optics makes riflescopes, binoculars and shooting gear, including the Velocity Pro Radar Chronograph we sell. If you came looking for college football previews, this is the wrong Athlon.
Where are Athlon products made?
Athlon Optics is an American company, and the country of manufacture for each product is printed on its packaging. Warranty service for the Velocity Pro runs through Athlon, and if you ever need it, we will help you reach them. Call us at (309) 781-8421 with any setup questions.
