Butler Creek

Butler Creek scope caps are the spring-hinged, flip-open covers that keep dust, rain and snow off your lenses and pop open with a push of the thumb tab. You don't have to dig a loose cap out of your pocket in the dark, and the cover stays on the optic when you set the rifle down in the truck.

What we carry from Butler Creek

We stock three Butler Creek scope covers. The objective cover goes over the front lens, which on a thermal is the germanium lens and the part you least want scratched. The eyepiece cover fits the rear (diopter or eye side) of the scope. The third is a diopter cap made for the Nocpix Rico 3 eyepiece, so Rico 3 owners can cover the ocular end without guessing at a size.

Covers are sized to the outside diameter of the lens housing, so measure your objective bell or eyepiece before you order, or call (309) 781-8421 with your optic model and we'll help you pick the right one. Most hunters run a cover on both ends: the front to protect the lens, the back to keep rain off the eyepiece while you walk in. It's a small part, but it saves a lot of lens cleaning on muddy nights.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Butler Creek?

Butler Creek is a shooting accessories brand best known for flip-open scope covers. The covers are hinged caps that snap over the front or rear of an optic and open with a thumb tab, so the lens stays covered on the drive out and is ready when a coyote comes in.

What size Butler Creek scope cover do I need?

Measure the outside diameter of your objective bell or eyepiece housing, since covers are sized to that, not to the lens size printed on the scope. Measure each end separately, because the front and back are rarely the same. Nocpix Rico 3 owners can skip the tape: we carry a diopter cap made for that eyepiece.

Do you really need scope covers on a thermal?

On a thermal it is simple protection for the most expensive part. The front germanium lens costs far more to replace than a cover, and grit or rain on it costs you image quality. A Butler Creek objective cover keeps it clean in the truck and on the walk in, and the eyepiece cover keeps rain off the back.

Are scope flip caps worth it?

Most hunters find them worth it because the cap stays on the scope. There is no loose cover to drop in the grass in the dark, and one push of the thumb tab opens it when an animal shows up. They also stay put when you set the rifle down in the truck.

What is the difference between a scope cover and a scope cap?

People use the words loosely. A cap usually means a hard, flip-open cover that stays on the scope, like the Butler Creek objective and eyepiece covers we carry. A cover more often means a soft sleeve or neoprene wrap that goes over the whole scope and comes off before you shoot.
