In most states deer hunting at night isn't allowed, though hogs and coyotes are often legal after dark. Check your state's rules first. A snug eye cup matters on those night hunts because it keeps the screen's glow off your face.

What yardage to zero a thermal scope?

Pick the distance you shoot most; for a lot of hog and coyote hunters that's 100 yards. Zero with the eye cup on and your head in its normal spot, since a missing or loose eye cup changes how you sit behind the scope.
