Names like iRay USA, PULSAR, Rix, and Nocpix dominate our industry, and are familiar to night hunters. But with that said, those looking for serious performance in thermal scopes at a bargain price should get familiar with the name DNT.
Let’s take a closer look at what the brand offers.
A Brief Overview of DNT Thermal Optics
The name “DNT” in DNT thermal comes from “Day Night Technologies” and is a nod to the company’s commitment to producing optics that perform under all lighting conditions and times of day, including in complete darkness.
Conventionally, thermal and IR optics have been prohibitively expensive, but DNT Optics seeks to change that. Their team is composed of various outdoor enthusiasts with extensive experience in firearms and optics technology, who are passionate about bringing IR and thermal optics to the masses at reasonable and accessible prices.
In their own words, a thermal scope does no one any good if no one can afford it. Here’s just a snapshot of what they offer.
Thermal Monoculars, Scopes, Multispectral and Multi-Function Thermal Imaging and More
In keeping to its mission to make thermal scopes and other optics more affordable, DNT has produced a variety of different thermal optics with equally various features and functionality, all at reasonable prices.
Their flagship thermal monocular, the DNT HOUND, is the first handheld thermal monocular that incorporates a laser rangefinder and a ballistic calculator, doing double, even triple duty. This monocular is highly effective for spotting, scouting, scanning, and more, and since it sports an LRF and ballistic calculator, you can estimate ranges, and execute shots, with greater confidence and precision than ever before.
The HOUND DNT thermal monocular is available in three different configurations and offers incredible versatility in the field for stalking, closing the gap, estimating the range, and more, all in complete darkness.
At under 11 ounces, the HOUND also enables fatigue-free, all-night viewing and easy packing, thanks to its lightweight design and compact footprint. It also supports several different display color palettes for customizability and strain-free viewing in the dark.
Taking versatility paired with capability to the next level is the DNT HYDRA thermal scope, which is more accurately called a “multi-function” thermal optic because it combines so many aspects into one package.
Like the HOUND, the DNT HYDRA is available in several different configurations, and can run triple duty as a standalone, handheld thermal monocular in addition to a dedicated or clip-on thermal scope. This in particular makes it exceptionally useful for night hunters who want to convert their existing optical scope into a thermal scope.
Like the HOUND, the HYDRA LRF comes with an integrated laser rangefinder and ballistic calculator, and since it can function as a thermal scope, streamlines taking precise range estimations and confident shots in the field under the cover of complete darkness.
For those who don’t need the functionality of a laser rangefinder or who would like to keep their thermal optic package more affordable, the HYDRA is also available in a non-LRF version.
The ThermNight is another banner optic from DNT and combines both thermal and IR imaging into one footprint, giving it the ability to serve as a thermal scope as well as an IR night scope.
The ThermNight can be run day and night in all conditions and like the two other DNT thermal optics mentioned here, also incorporates a laser rangefinder and onboard ballistic calculator into its design.
Notably, the ThermNight features a “one shot zero” function that is cross-functional between both thermal and IR vision channels, enabling you to key in on the same point of aim through both, and switch back and forth between either seamlessly.
The ThermNight also sports a detachable IR illuminator and is configurable with a 940nm illuminator, which is sold separately. Furthermore, the ThermNight allows for effortless toggling between display modes, streamlining use and improving user-friendliness.
All of the DNT thermal optics mentioned here are also physically durable and resilient. The DNT HYDRA and ThermNight are both recoil-resistant to .50 BMG and all three optics series boast IP67 protection against moisture and particulate ingress, making them exceptionally reliable in all weather conditions.
The DNT HYDRA and ThermNight are also equipped with QDM150 Multi-Functional Quick Detach Mounts, enabling a great deal of flexibility in the field along with easy modularity.
All of these DNT thermal optics are available in different configurations which vary primarily by resolution, but regardless, all of them deliver clear, crisp sight pictures, sensitive NETD ratings, and fast frame rates for smooth, lag-free viewing experiences.
Durable, rugged, reliable, and rounded out with a wide range of hunter-friendly functions and features, these DNT thermal optics deliver incredible value for their relatively low price points. The only thing left for you to do is experience that performance for yourself.

Beyond DNT Thermal Scopes
In addition to the DNT thermal scopes and optics covered here, the company also produces a variety of different night vision optics, including scopes and other night vision devices, along with a variety of thermal imaging accessories. Some of these include but are not limited to batteries, chargers, mounts, caps and covers, and throw levers.
From scopes to power solutions to supporting accessories, DNT Optics take incredible performance and offer it at a bargain to night hunters.
