The iRay RH25 Might Be for You If

The iRay RH25 Might Be for You If

May 22nd 2026

As a night hunter you certainly aren’t dealing with a shortage of thermal optics like thermal scopes, monoculars and binoculars. Several big brands like Nocpix, PULSAR, and iRay are vying for your attention, with affordable newcomers like DNT on the scene now as well.

But if you want to narrow things down a bit, an iRay RH25 V2 might be for you if you’re looking for a thermal scope that meets any (or all) of the following conditions.

You Need a Lightweight Yet Rugged Thermal Optic

Thermal optics can tend to be a bit heavy, and if you’re already carrying a lot of gear in the field at night it’s not unreasonable to look for ways to lighten the loadout.

The iRay RH25 V2 is made with a lightweight magnesium alloy housing and weighs only 11.3 ounces, which is not that heavy, especially considering the fact that some thermal optics weigh well over a pound.

It doesn’t sacrifice durability, though, as this iRay thermal scope sports rugged construction as well as a respectable IP67 rating against moisture and particulate ingress.

And if that is not impressive enough, it also boasts a 1000g/m3 recoil rating, enough to handle cartridges as hard-hitting (or in this case, as hard-kicking) as .300 Win Mag.

You Need More Than Just a Thermal Scope

Obviously the iRay RH25 V2 can function as a dedicated thermal scope and is equipped with several different color palettes and reticle colors. But it can do a lot more than just serve as a thermal scope.

It can be handheld and serve in the same capacity as a thermal monocular, to be used for scanning, scouting, tracking and more. One footprint gives you the flexibility to run multiple different types of thermal optics.

On top of that this thermal scope can also be helmet mounted and used in that capacity as well, making it one of the most versatile thermal optics on the market.

You Don’t Want to Remove Your Current Glass Optic

One of the coolest things about the iRay RH25 V2 is that it can be mounted in tandem with your current glass scope and used as what’s called a clip-on thermal optic.

If you’re not familiar, a clip-on thermal scope is a thermal optic that basically converts your existing glass scope into a thermal optic.

Basically, you view the sight picture through your scope but with the thermal display of the thermal optic interposing. This “converts” your current glass scope into a thermal scope.

Not only does this free you from the need to remove and replace your current scope, but if your scope is already zeroed, you don’t need to do any extra work. Literally just mount the clip-on thermal onto the rail and you can get in the field.

This single feature drives perhaps the most value behind this iRay thermal scope.

You Spend a Lot of Time in the Field at Night

Battery life is important in a thermal scope, especially for hunters that spend more than just a few hours in the field away from the truck. But battery life is also only one component of the longevity of a thermal scope.

At a certain point, it becomes more important how easily you can replace the battery in a thermal scope than how long a single battery’s charge will actually last. One of the best things about the iRay RH25 V2 is that it accepts common 18650-style batteries (which last 5.5 hours under ideal conditions, by the way) but more importantly, the power can be hot swapped so you don’t experience any untoward interruptions in power during the night.

You Don’t Need a Rangefinder

Many premier thermal scopes (and other optics) on the market are currently equipped with rangefinders, such as the Nocpix ACE S60R and DNT HOUND.

In most cases (though not in the case of the DNT HOUND) a laser rangefinder-equipped thermal scope (or monocular, for that matter) is going to cost more than one without. That extra functionality comes at a cost.

However, not every hunter may want or need that functionality, much less to pay the premium for it. The iRay RH25 V2 may sport a lot of functionality and features but does not have an LRF so you won’t be paying extra for that.

You Need Versatility with Respect to Mounting

In addition to everything else that’s been mentioned here, if you are looking for a thermal scope that offers a good deal of versatility with respect to how it’s mounted, the iRay RH25 V2 may be a good choice for you.

In addition to compatibility with standard Picatinny mounts, the RH25 V2 can also be mounted using MUM mounts and is helmet-mount compatible, as has been stated.

What Else the iRay RH25 V2 Offers

What’s covered here are only a few of the things that might drive value for you in the iRay RH25 V2, but otherwise this post does not do it justice, so here are a few things to know about this thermal scope:

  • It’s available in two colors.
  • It’s protected by a 5-year warranty.
  • It has a 1375 yard detection range.
