When using the IRAY CABIN 19 and 25 out in the field we quickly realized the flimsy rubber lens cap had to go! It would never stay on, and was constantly flopping and banging into my hand when using it. If you can't keep the cap on, the heart of your thermal is exposed to the elements. The germanium lens is one of the most expensive thermal components and if exposed to dirt, water, grime etc. your picture quality will degrade, and getting these lenses clean is not easy! Keep your investment protected with a lens cap that stays on, and protects your lens when not in use!
To solve this problem we started with a Butler Creek Lens cap and made an adapter to connect directly to the front with a simple twist lock design. Yes, cap it any time you aren't scanning. The germanium lens is one of the most expensive parts of a thermal, and dirt, water and grime on it cost you image quality and are hard to clean off. This flip cap locks onto the Cabin with a twist, so it stays on in the field instead of popping off like the stock rubber cap.
Will this lens cap fit other thermal monoculars?
No. Lens caps are sized to a specific objective, and this one uses an adapter made for the front of the iRay Cabin. It fits only the Cabin CBL19 384 and the Cabin CBL25 384 thermal monoculars. For other models, check our eye cups and lens caps category for a cap built for your unit.
What should I do if I lost the lens cap on my iRay Cabin?
